""Ice and the Sky" (La Glace et le Ciel) is a 2015 French documentary film directed by Luc Jacquet ("March of the Penguin") about the work of Claude Lorius, who began studying Antarctic ice in 1957, and, in 1965, was the first scientist to be concerned about global warming. His last words in the film are "Now that you know, what are you going to do?" The film was selected to close the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
Run time: 79 minutes. English subtitles.
The evening will be hosted by Prof. Dr. Azizan Abu Samah, Professor of Geography, University of Malaya and National Coordinator, for the Malaysian Antarctic Program. French glaciologist Dr. Catherine Ritz will introduce the film.
After the screening Prof. Steven Chown, renowned Antarctic Conservationist from Australia, will moderate a panel discussion on climate change and adaptation. Panellists will include Dr. Ritz, Prof. Dr. Azizan Abu Samah, Prof. Dr. Tim Naish from New Zealand, and Dr. Peter Convey from the UK.
